Install Full Text Search in MSSQL 2005 on Windows Dedicated Server Hosting

There are various editions of MSSQL 2005 when it comes to MSSQL 2005 databases. However, we will be considering MSSQL 2005 Express edition in this tutorial and the reason for this is definitely the cost.

MSSQL 2005 Express edition is provided for free and it does not require licensing fee even if you install it on your Windows Dedicated Server Hosting. Though, there are some limitations on MSSQL 2005 Express edition, it is still widely used as the features are quite good, does not require licensing fee, is a lite weight application with minimum requirements and different other reasons.

If you install MSSQL 2005 Express edition on your Windows Dedicated servers, you won’t have a lot of limitations, however, as this is a free version, some of them are present. If you have Windows dedicated servers, you may not worry about the disk space of the server and the databases will be huge. Here is  a point where MSSQL 2005 Express edition lacks. You will be able to create a maximum of 4 GB database with MSSQL 2005 Express edition.  Moreover, it is stored in a single .mdf file.

After the above information, we will proceed with the installation of full text search in MSSQL 2005. However, before we proceed, let me inform you about the exact function. If you have full text search installed on your Windows Dedicated server hosting, you will be able to search a text word or phrase as the full text search will look for same words in every document. If the words match, you will get it, if they don’t, you will be prompted that the words does not exist in any file or document. You can follow the steps given below to install Full text search in MSSQL 2005 Express edition on Windows dedicated server hosting.

1. Login to your Windows dedicated servers using RDP administrator access (Administrator access is required for installation).

2. Go to my Computer option and right click on the icon.

3. Then select Manage.

4. After this, go to Services and Applications.

5. Now, select SQL Server Configuration Manager.

6. The next step is to choose SQL Server 2005 Services in which you would find an option to Enable the Full Text Search.

7. Select the option to install and then proceed with the restart of MSSQL 2005 to complete the process.

8. Congratulations as you have finally installed full text search in MSSQL 2005 on your Windows Dedicated Server Hosting.
